    The measurement adapter type MD 101 as per informative annex B of IEC/EN 61000-4-2 serves to verify pulse amplitudes and pulse shapes. It is designed for mounting in the side wall of a Faraday cage in which an oscilloscope has been installed. This measurement adapter, also known as a 'Pellegrini-Target' has the flat impedance curve to well over 1 GHz that is necessary for the purpose. Use of this adapter is only worthwhile in conjunction with a test rig that is laid out in strict conformity with the relevant standard (see section 7).The Teseq MD 103, Pommerenke target, is a more advanced coaxial measuring target with flat response characteristics up to the multi-GHz range. It may be used instead of the Teseq MD 101.

    Calibration procedures on ESD generators call for high class test equipment and a carefully configured test rig. All the elements incorporated within the measurement chain must be matched to one another before highly accurate measurements with minimal uncertainties can be contemplated. Faster oscilloscopes enable more complete measurements and analyses of the fast ESD pulses but, of course, the rest of the components in the measurement chain must be up to the necessary standard and exhibit the appropriate frequency response. Therefore the Teseq MD 103 ESD Pulse Calibration set offers a complete measuring path from the target to the attenuator up to the high quality coax cable. The whole path has to be left together and should not be disassembled into parts, as the whole coupling path is calibrated in one piece. An important component in this chain is the measurement target. Through a collaborative effort with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, a new type of construction has been developed featuring a distortion-free, f at frequency characteristic up to at least 6 GHz. Standardization committees work on the pulse definitions of ESD generators to be specified more accurately and hence to ensure greater reproducibility during test trials. Simultaneously the description of the calibration test rig configuration and the measurement conditions have been newly and more precisely specified. The newest recommendations are written in the form of a draft standard that has been submitted to the ANSI as well as the IEC. Results from extensive round robin investigations confirm the feasibility and usefulness of tougher calibration requirements. The draft standard specifies the overall variation of the insertion loss of the whole measurement chain including cabling and any additional attenuators as follows: ±0.3 dB up to 1 GHz ±1 dB between 1 and 4 GHz As a result, the S21 parameter (insertion loss) of a target becomes a decisive factor. The classical measurement shunt can no longer satisfy these increased demands. The MD 103 target fulfils these specifications comfortably. The Teseq MD 103 is manufactured with the highest mechanical and electrical precision and therefore very narrow tolerances are assured. All the important elements are gold plated. The target is supplied ready for mounting in a screening wall. The Teseq MD 103 ESD Pulse Calibration Set for ESD Waveshape Verification is a measurement device for calibration laboratories and specialists, who work right at the cutting edge of the latest technological know-how. The set will be delivered as a complete chain, consisting of target, attenuator, cable and a ISO 17025 calibration certificate including all relevant calibration data and graphs. A calibration adapter is also supplied with each target as standard. Thanks to the excellent frequency characteristic and the accurately determined parameters this target cannot negatively influence the uncertainty budget of the measurement chain as a whole. The advanced trigger module provides three pulse trigger modes: pulse width, runt pulse and slew rate. Pulse Width (or Glitch). Pulse Width triggering triggers the oscilloscope when a signal pulse width is less than, greater than, equal to or not equal to a specified pulse width. This trigger is useful for digital logic troubleshooting. Runt Pulse. Runt Pulse triggering triggers the oscilloscope when a signal pulse is less than a specified threshold level. The TDS3VID application module extends this basic video triggering by adding the following features. Video QuickMenu. This Video QuickMenu function allows you to display a bottom and side menu that contains video functions useful for displaying and measuring broadcast standard waveforms, including trigger source, when to trigger, video graticule and video autoset. Video Autoset. The autoset function automatically adjusts the vertical, horizontal and video trigger settings to display a video waveform triggered on all lines and fields. You can then manually adjust controls to optimize the display. This function is available in the Video QuickMenu and in the Acquire menu. Custom Video. The field holdoff function provides the capability to specify a number of fields to wait before re-enabling triggering. This allows you to trigger on a single field (e.g. field 1 or field 3 of NTSC) instead of both field 1 and field 3. Video Graticules. The video graticule function provides the capability for the user to change the standard oscilloscope graticule to either IRE or mV depending on the signal format. Video graticules make it easier to measure and analyze video waveforms.
