ANSI/ESDA/JEDEC JS-001 ESD Human Body Model Standard

This 2024 edition of the ESD human mody model test has converged and consilidated the seperate standards bodies for a univerersal and consistent approach.
 

Previous ESD HBM Test Standards:

  • ANSI/ESDA STM5.1-2007
  • ESD STM5.2
  • JESD22-A114F or JEDEC 22-A11
  • AEC-Q100-002

Significant changes include (but not limited to):

  • Non-supply pin testing has been greatly reduced and partially eliminated
  • Supply to Supply testing can be done with a single polarity
  • Two pin testing is now permitted
  • Discussion of current probe specifications and the use of CT1 and CT2 current probes with regard to the measurement of the HBM decay time
Some customers want to utilize an ESD gun to perform this testing which may or may not be practical for your precompliance test. Most ESD generators are on the market have a much more vigorous rise time and peak current then the standard requires, causing unnecessary overstress and potential failures that aren't likely in the lab or real world.

ANSI/ESDA/JEDEC JS-001 Overview

This standard establishes the procedure for testing, evaluating, and classifying components and microcircuits according to their susceptibility (sensitivity) to damage or degradation by exposure to a defined human body model (HBM) electrostatic discharge (ESD). The purpose (objective) of this standard is to establish a test method that will replicate HBM failures and provide reliable, repeatable HBM ESD test results from tester to tester, regardless of component type. Repeatable data will allow accurate classifications and comparisons of HBM ESD sensitivity levels. NOTE Data previously generated with testers meeting all waveform criteria of ANSI/ESD STM5.1-2007 or JESD22A-114F shall be considered valid test data.
