8 kV with 150 pF / 330 Ω RC network Ergonomic handling - perfectly balanced  4” large capacitive touchscreen Intuitive and smart operation  Create user defined test plans Programmable side buttons – single hand operation Direct report generation on the generator (PDF, CSV, HTML) Rechargeable battery - USB-C fast charging (80 min) An 8kV ESD generator has been in order since edition 2 of IEC 61000-4-2, as most our customers didn't require a 15kV air discharge test. EMC partner heard the cry. Is it cheaper? Sure, but not as much as you'd think. Redesigning, sourcing, prototyping and doing all the product design and development isn't practical when a few hundred ESD guns are sold a year. Regardless, it is still a good solution that the market should warm too. Now, EMC Partners Overview: The EMC Partner ESDEX8 8 kV ESD Generator is a compact and reliable solution for simulating electrostatic discharge events in laboratory and pre-compliance testing environments. Designed for ease of use and consistent performance, it enables engineers to evaluate the ESD immunity of electronic devices during development and validation. Operating with a standard 150 pF / 330 Ω RC network, the ESDEX8 delivers controlled discharge pulses in accordance with IEC 61000-4-2, supporting both contact and air discharge methods up to 8 kV. It is suitable for testing a wide range of electronic products, including consumer devices, industrial equipment, and embedded systems. Its stable output and straightforward operation make it ideal for routine testing, design verification, and troubleshooting across R&D, quality assurance, and pre-compliance lab environments. In practice, ESD Guns customers use the ESDEX8 for pre-compliance testing, product validation, and troubleshooting of electronic devices during development. Engineers apply controlled ESD events to critical points such as enclosures, connectors, PCBs, and user interfaces to identify potential failure points early and improve product robustness before formal compliance testing. It is also commonly used to replicate standard ESD conditions based on IEC 61000-4-2, as well as to recreate field-related ESD issues and verify corrective design changes. This makes the ESDEX8 a practical and dependable tool for routine ESD testing in small to mid-scale EMC testing environments. Applications: Pre-compliance testing, product validation, and ESD troubleshooting Simulation of electrostatic discharge on enclosures, connectors, PCBs, and user interfaces Early-stage design testing to identify vulnerabilities and improve robustness Replication of standard ESD conditions based on IEC 61000-4-2 Recreation of field-related ESD issues and verification of design fixes Routine ESD testing in R&D and pre-compliance laboratories Specifications Output voltage range 2 – 8 kV (±5%) Contact discharge (max.) ±8 kV Air discharge (max.) ±8 kV Voltage steps 1 V Polarity Positive / Negative / Alternating Holding time ≥ 5 s Discharge mode Air / Contact / Fire Repetition rate (CD) 0.05 – 500 s Fire mode / Burst mode 0.002 s – 30 s Trigger mode Manual / Automatic Discharge counter 1 – 99,999 Discharge detection Yes Voltage threshold Freely selectable (10% – 90%) RC-networks See chapter 3 Automatic RC-network recognition Yes Bleeder resistor (1 MΩ) Yes, selectable Requires At least one RC module Control & Interface Display 4" capacitive color touchscreen Display brightness Selectable (0% – 100%) Programmable side buttons No Tip-LED No Auto power-off Disabled or up to 60 min (in 1 min steps) Memory Mini SD-Card 4GB for reporting, FW updates, setups Test mode Free Level, Fixed Level, Level Ramp Sequence mode Yes Testing & Software Test points Multiple points possible Standard test library No Test reports PDF, CSV, HTML formats Free Basic Software Yes, for reporting, FW updates and setups Languages EN, DE, FR, IT, ES, PL, JP, CN, KR Options & Upgrades ESDEX-TESTSUITE Customized test plans and automated reports as per IEC 61000-4-2 and ISO 10605 ESDEX-SELFCHECK Voltage, discharge relay polarity relay, current measurement, temperature measurement Upgrade No Power, Climatic Conditions, Weight & Dimensions Power supply adapter Input 100 – 240 Vac (50/60 Hz) ± 10% Power consumption Input ~35 W, No load < 0.1 W Battery Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery Pack 2900mAh / 20.9 Wh Battery life 14 hours, typical operation Charging port USB-C Charging time (10%–80%) 80 min Operating temperature 15 – 35 °C Humidity 30 – 60 % non condensing Air pressure 86 – 106 kPa ESDEX Dimensions 255 x 247 x 89.2 mm ESDEX Mainframe Weight ~1400 g Carrying case dimensions 432 x 320 x 80 mm Calibration certificate Factory calibration or accredited calibration as ordered Included Rechargeable Li-ion battery pack, mains adapter, ground cable 2m, 3 test tips (Round, Sharp, Ellipse @30 kV), carrying case, USB-C cable, USB-Stick
