Overview of Section 5.4.12 - Electrostatic Discharges Susceptibility Testing
Two different categories of ESD test methods as described in this standard (coupling to cable bundles as in 5.4.12 or 5.4.13 and direct injection into chassis
as in 5.4.14), with different coupling paths, result in a better test coverage and experience showed that they are complementary to spot weak designs.
The purpose of this test is to verify the immunity to the electromagnetic effects of electrostatic discharges wire-coupled to the cable bundles connected to the EUT.
