      The Haefely PESD 1610 Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Simulator / Generator Gun has been replaced by the Haefely ONYX 16 kV ESD Test Generator. The Haefely PESD 1610 is still suitable for most ESD immunity test applications and can be rented or purchased at an economical price compared to current model 16 kV ESD simulators. Please note quantities are limited as parts are no longer available and units must be scrapped once functionality fails. Haefely PESD 1610 Description: Bringing dissimilar insulation materials together and then parting them creates electrostatic charges. The resultant electrostatic discharge (ESD) can cause failures in electronic circuits. There are two principal methods of discharge: Air discharge and contact discharge. Contact discharge is the preferred test method because test results are more reproducible. The Haefely PESD 1610 features a unique NO CONTACT detection circuit. During contact discharge tests, PESD 1610 continuously monitors if ESD pulses are really discharged to the EUT (Equipment under Test). In case of no contact to the EUT, the operator receives a warning message in the LCD display. This prevents the user from potentially wrong test results. The PESD 1610 has a highly ergonomic design. This includes a firm handle that insures safe and comfortable operation under any circumstances, and dedicated, large conventional push buttons for easy and convenient setting of all test parameters.       ESD generators are calibrated according to the standard IEC/EN 61000-4-2 Ed 2.0. The Haefely PET 4000 ESD Current Target Calibration Set allows the user to take measurements conforming to the new 4GHz requirement in accordance with IEC 61000-4-2 Ed. 2.0. Measurement of individual impulse parameters is performed using a special coaxial current shunt. This has a nominal impedance of 2 Ohms. Because ESD events can be generated as high as 120A, attenuators are required to reduce the impulse-voltage level so it can be displayed on commercial oscilloscopes. An oscilloscope with minimum 2GHz bandwidth is required to properly display the ESD impulse.       Annex F of the actual ISO 10605, provides an additional approach for the ESD powered up test. This approach is intended to produce more repeatable test results and to better correlate with vehicle level ESD tests and the real world environment in comparison especially to the HCP test.
